our story
In 2006, our founders, a group of Midwest natives who had the opportunity to attend colleges such as Princeton, Harvard, Dartmouth, and Brown, got together with the goal of providing talented young women from the Midwest with these same kinds of educational opportunities.
The founders recognized that students from the Midwest are under-represented on these very selective college campuses – even though they offer some of the best educations and the most generous financial aid. Students in the Midwest lacked awareness about the opportunities and scholarship available to them, and did not seem to recognize their own talent.
The founders also realized that young women, in particular, would benefit from encouragement to raise their aspirations and pursue bold paths to college and beyond.
They created the Joyce Ivy Foundation and launched the Summer Scholars program to give talented young women from the Midwest the chance to venture from home and experience life on the college campuses of our partners first-hand.
The experience raises Scholars' confidence and college aspirations, provides them with critical information about the admissions and financial aid process, and connects them with a network of peers and mentors.
The Story Of Joyce
The Foundation is named for Joyce, a woman from Michigan who showed enormous potential but whose life was cut short by cancer. The Joyce Ivy Foundation supports the aspirations of other high potential young women so that they may fulfill their potential and shape their own paths to college and beyond.
