Forty-One Named as Joyce Ivy Foundation Summer Scholars for 2010

Marks Fifth Anniversary As Nation’s Leading Provider of Pre-College Scholarships

ANN ARBOR, MI., July 27, 2010 - The Joyce Ivy Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the academic advancement of high-potential female high school students, today announced the names of forty-one young women receiving 2010 summer scholarships for precollege study at top colleges and universities.

Celebrating its fifth year, the Joyce Ivy Foundation provides partial and full scholarships for precollege summer study at Ivy League and equivalent campuses. Pre-college programs at these institutions provide valuable and broadening experiences to high school students aspiring to earn an undergraduate acceptance at a highly competitive college or university. Since the Joyce Ivy Foundation’s inception, former Summer Scholars have matriculated at all eight Ivy League schools as well as other elite institutions including Wellesley, Vassar, the University of Chicago, and MIT, and have been the recipients of prestigious academic awards including Gates Foundation Millennium Scholar and Presidential Scholar.

"These young women exemplify the high standards we have come to expect of Joyce Ivy Summer Scholars," said Carrie Hadler, Joyce Ivy Foundation Board member, and Chairman of the Joyce Ivy Foundation committee that selects its Summer Scholars. "These Summer Scholars were selected from the strongest applicant pool we have seen the past five years. Their range of interests and future studies is extraordinary."

The forty-one young women receiving 2010 Joyce Ivy Foundation scholarships have been accepted to summer programs at Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, MIT, The University of Pennsylvania, and Yale. Joyce Ivy Foundation evaluates Scholarship applicants for exceptional academic achievement, demonstrated commitment to pursuit of rigorous undergraduate programs, service to community, and extracurricular activities.

The Joyce Ivy Foundation is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to encouraging, supporting and motivating high-potential young women to realize their educational goals by enhancing their pursuit of academic excellence at leading colleges and universities. Funding for the Joyce Ivy Foundation is provided by individuals, corporations and private foundations. High school sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for Joyce Ivy Foundation pre-college scholarships; applications will be accepted beginning January 1, 2011 for 2011 summer study.
