The Joyce Ivy Foundation Names Twenty-Eight Summer Scholard for 2009

High School Students in Michigan and Ohio Awarded Scholarships to Leading Institutions for Pre-College Study

ANN ARBOR, MI., June 23, 2009 – The Joyce Ivy Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the academic advancement of high-potential female high school students, today announced that a record group of twenty-eight sophomores and juniors from Michigan and Ohio have been named 2009 Joyce Ivy Foundation Summer Scholars. Now in its fourth year, the Joyce Ivy Foundation’s Summer Scholar Program provides partial and full scholarships for pre-college summer study at Ivy League and equivalent campuses. Pre-college programs provide valuable experience, both academically and socially, to high school students aspiring to earn a place at a highly competitive college or university. Prior Summer Scholars have gone on to pursue undergraduate degrees at institutions including Harvard, Cornell, Brown, the University of Pennsylvania, Vassar, Wellesley, and MIT, and have been the recipients of prestigious academic awards including selection as a Gates Foundation Millennium Scholar and a Presidential Scholar.

The twenty-eight young women receiving 2009 Joyce Ivy Foundation scholarships have been accepted to summer programs at Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, The University of Pennsylvania, Stanford and Yale. Summer Scholar applicants were evaluated for exceptional academic achievement, demonstrated commitment to pursuit of rigorous undergraduate programs, service to community, and extracurricular activities.
